BMCC Sweeps Doubleheader at Rockland

Suffern, NY | The men's and women's basketball team made the trip upstate to Rockland Community College on Tuesday night to take on the Hawks in a Region XV doubleheader. Following a slow start in the first game of the night, the Lady Panthers got the offense going in the second half leading while continuing to stifle the Hawks on defense, resulting in a 51-27 blowout. The second game of the night was a rematch of the 2016 Region XV semifinals, in which Rockland upset BMCC to knock the Panthers out of the tournament. The men's team managed to flip the script on Tuesday, a 33 point night for Terrell Fullerton fueled BMCC to a 88-79 victory over the Hawks.

While the offense got off to a sluggish start, it was the defense of the Lady Panthers that set the tone throughout the game. In the second quarter, the Lady Panthers allowed just 2 points to the Hawks to enter halftime with a 19-13 lead. With the defense settled in, BMCC began to open the game up in the second half. Ashley Brooks led the team with 12 points and 21 rebounds, while Nikola Zilakova hounded the Hawks ball handlers to end with 6 steals to go along with her 11 points.

In another dominant performance, Fullerton tallied 33 points and 4 assists as he continues impress this season, through just five games, the freshman now averages 24.8 points per game. Panthers guard Jason Mejia caught fire from the 3 point line to finish the night with 15 points and added on with 5 assists. Jericho Cherisma kept the glass clean for BMCC, the second year player racked up 20 rebounds, including 13 on offense, to create numerous second chance opportunities for the team.

The Panthers will return home Thursday night to take on the Dutchess Falcons in a women's-men's doubleheader. The Lady Panthers are set to tip off at 5:45pm.
