Men’s Soccer Wraps Up Regular Season With Victory

Captain Itamar Pereira netted two goals in the 4-2 win

Box Score BROOKLYN, NY| The Borough of Manhattan Community College men's soccer team defeated Bronx Community College 4-2 at Kingsborough Community College on Saturday afternoon in what was the side's final regular season contest of the 2014 season. The Panthers finish the season with a 7-2-1 record (3-0 CUNYAC) and will play in the CUNYAC Community College Championship on Monday.

Defender Chris Morales opened the scoring in the second minute, scoring his first goal of the season after midfielder Abdoulaye Gueye found him cutting into the box. Forward Itamar Pereira followed suit two minutes later when he beat the Bronx keeper streaking down the right side.

An audacious attempt by Bronx's Idrissou El Sadate from way outside the box found the back of the net in the eighth minute to draw the visitors back within one goal, but winger William Grajales' sixth goal of the season in the 17th minute ensured the Panthers would head into halftime up 3-1.

After a slow start to the second frame, BMCC allowed Bronx to threaten its lead when Rayon Pyne scored for the Broncos, but the Panthers did well to eliminate their opponent's scoring chances for the remainder of the match. Itamar Pereira would close out the scoring in the 86th minute with his CUNYAC leading 8th goal of the season.

The Panthers generated 26 shots—11 of which came off the foot of Pereira—in the game and forced Bronx keeper Romeo Kelly to make 13 saves. Randy Zacarias made five saves in his fifth start of the year for BMCC.

Up next for the Panthers is Queensborough Community College in the CUNYAC Community College Men's Soccer Championship set to take place on Monday, October 20 at 7:00 PM at Met Oval.
