Panthers Drop Season Opener Against Queensborough

New York, NY - The 2013 BMCC Panthers Soccer season began Wednesday night at Pier 40 with a game against CUNY rival Queensborough Community College. The Tigers defeated the Panthers 2-0 in a game that saw both teams have multiple opportunities to score.

The Panthers saw five of their nine shots test the keeper and had four other chances where the ball found no one inside the box.  Goalkeeper Irvin Barreto played an outstanding game making multiple saves in the first half.

Queensborough was the more aggressive team throughout the 90 minutes and dominated possession of the ball. The TIgers first goal came in the 43' on a nice pass that set up Fookkee Liao. The second goal came after the Wendy LaFoutune was whistled for a foul inside the penalty area and Darwin Portillo buried the penalty kick to take a 2-0 lead.

The Panthers resume the 2013 season on Saturday September 7th when they travel to New Jersey to take on Raritan Valley Community College. Kick-off is at 12:00pm.
