New York, N.Y. - The BMCC Panthers took on the SUNY Orange Colts Wednesday night at Pier 40 in a crucial Region XV matchup. The Panthers came away with a hard fought 4-1 victory. The Panthers were led by freshman Ilir Papraniku who scored his 1st career hat trick and Abdul Malik Muftau.Â
The Panthers got behind early on a defensive miscommunication which allowed the Colts to take a 1-0 lead in the 8'. Muftau equalized for the Panthers in the 14' on a beautiful strike from the six yard box. Adversity struck the Panthers in the 28', when Captain Nicholas Sierna was shown a red card for a blatant elbow. The Panthers responded well, led by Papraniku's aggressive play in the offensive end. His first goal came 5 minutes before the halftime whistle and his 2nd game in the 55' and 3rd came in the 69'. Papraniku took six shots all of which tested the Colts keeper.
Goalkeeper Irvin Barrett saw his goalless streak end at an amazing 283 minutes but he responded well making numerous saves on point blank shots in both halves.Â
The Panthers return to action on Saturday with another Region XV matchup against Rockland Community College. Game time is 12:00pm at Pier 40.
