Box Score

Brooklyn N.Y. - The BMCC men's and women's soccer teams traveled to Kingsborough Community College on Saturday afternoon for a double-header. The women won their game 5-2 and the men's team tied the Wave 0-0.

In the women's game the Panthers bounced back from their 10-1 defeat on Wednesday and came out of the gate strong and controlled the run of play for the majority of the 1st half. The Lady Panthers got on the board in the 5th minute when midfielder Maria Cacuci scored but the Wave answered back three minutes later on a 40 yard free kick that bounced over Sandra Staniszweska head. The Lady Panthers continued to dominate the ball and in the 18th minute Cacuci found Luye Murphy inside the box to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead. Gisselle Diaz added on another goal in the 32nd minute on beautiful strike from the left wing.

The 2nd half played much like the 1st with the Lady Panthers dominating possession and having numerous shots that all tested the Wave's keeper. Cacuci's playmaking skills were on display again when she found a streaking Staniszweska's inside the box, who buried it to increase the lead to 4-1. The Wave got one back in the 75th minute but Staniszweska got her 2nd of the game five minutes later to make the score 5-2.

The Lady Panthers are now 1-1 in Region XV and play Region opponent Nassau CC on Wednesday on Long Island.

In the men's half of the double-header, the Panthers were clearly the more aggressive team controlling possession right from the opening whistle. The Panthers tested the Wave's keeper with six shots in the 1st half while only allowing the Wave to get two shots on net. Goalkeeper Irvin Bareto was outstanding once again. He extended his shutout streak to 275 minutes, while stopping all 12 shots.

Abdul Malik Muftau was the most active and aggressive player on the pitch on Saturday. He controlled the midfield play and put nine shots on net with five testing the keeper. Frank Obeng, Itamar Periera, and Drition Selimanjin all had chances in the 2nd half and OT to put in the clinching goal but in the end they all ended up in the hand of the Wave keeper.

Bareto stood strong for the entire 110 minute affair making multiple saves in both extra-time periods to preserve his clean sheet. This was Bareto's 3rd straight game without conceding a goal.

The Panthers return to action Wednesday against SUNY Orange. The game will be played at Pier 40 at 6:30pm.
