Panthers Comeback Falls Just Short

Box Score

Queens, NY - The BMCC Men's soccer team returned to action on Wednesday against the #3 Suffolk Sharks at Metropolitan Oval in Queens, NY. The Panthers lost 2-1 in a rematch of last seasons Region XV Championship game.

The first half was very balenced, with each team haivng equal possesion of the ball and having opportunites to draw first blood. The Panthers tested the Sharks keeper with five on target shots. Panthers keeper Irvin Baretto was tested with three shots and turned them all away.

In the second half a bit of careless defending in the 51' gave Suffolk midfielder Andre Brown room in the middle of the field and the sophomore burried a goal to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead. 13 minutes later Brown would strike again, this time connecting on a free kick that beat Baretto in the upper right corner.

The Panthers responded well and kept pressuring. After having a few crosses just miss the head of CUNYAC Rookie of the Week Driton Selimanjin and Ilir Papraniku, forward Itamar Pereria blasted a shot from inside the 18-yard box that beat the Sharks keeper low and right to cut the Sharks lead to 2-1. The Panthers nearly tied the score in the 88' when a cross found Papraniku's head but the ball grazed off the left post.

The Panthers are now 1-2 on the season and they resume play Saturday September 14 when they travel to Stone Ridge to take on the SUNY Ulster Senators.
