Panthers fall to QCC in CUNY Championship

The 2nd seeded Borough of Manhattan Community College Panthers, making their first-ever appearance in the City University of New York Athletic Conference / Municipal Credit Union Community College Championship Game, fell to the Queensborough Tigers by a score of 9-5 on Monday night at MCU Park in Coney, Island, Brooklyn.

The Panthers got off to a quick start with a two out rally in the top of the 1st inning.  Jason Javier, 2nd team All-Region at Second Base, doubled down the left field line and came home on a rbi single from Panthers Designated Hitter Luis Hiraldo.  Following a 4 run bottom of the 2nd inning for the Queensborough Tigers; the Panthers came out with a strong rally in the top of the 3rd inning.  Harry Santiago, 1st team All-Region at First Base, got the inning started with a single up the middle.  Two batters later the Panthers had the bases loaded with nobody out as Kevin Hernadez walked and Jason Javier singled to right field to load up the bases.  Stanley De La Cruz, 1st team All-Region at Shortstop, drove home two runs with a double to the left center field gap.  After Luis Hiraldo struck out for the first out of the inning; Ariel Torres, the Panthers 2nd team All-Region 3rd Baseman, stepped up to the plate and delivered a one out two-run single up the middle to tie the game up at 5 apiece.  BMCC was held scoreless the rest of the way and fell to Queensborough by a score of 9-5.

Although the final result wasn't what the Panthers were hoping for it was still a great season as the 2012 Panthers were the first baseball team from BMCC to ever make the CUNYAC Championship game!
