Panthers Defeat Nassau C.C.

Box Score

The Panthers(5-1-1 overall, 2-0-1 conference) traveled to Mitchell Field in Long Island on Wednesday night looking to exact some revenge on the Lions of Nassau Community College in a match-up featuring two of the premier teams in the Region.  The Panthers, who have been knocked out of the Region XV playoffs each of the last 3 seasons by Nassau CC, came into this match riding a 5 game unbeaten streak which includes 3 straight shut-out victories on the opponent's pitch.  The Panthers got the scoring going early when Klaudio Shala(Sophomore, Albania) recorded his 5th assist on the season by setting up Kevin Romero(Sophomore, El Salvador) for an 8th minute goal in which Kevin beat the goalkeeper on a one on one for his 3rd goal of the season and a 1-0 Panthers lead.  Nassau answered the Panthers score with a 23rd minute goal to tie the game at 1 a piece.  The Panthers didn't wait long to jump back on top.  Klaudio Shala once again found Kevin Romero this time for a one-timer from 18 yards away and a 2-1 Panthers lead.  The Lions attempted to keep the pressure on the Panthers as they looked for the equalizer, however Panthers goalkeeper Irvin Barreto(Freshman, Mexico) made two crucial saves to secure the victory for the Panthers and extend the Panthers unbeaten streak to 6 consecutive games.  With the win BMCC improves to (6-1-1 overall, 2-0-1 conference) and will return home for the last 3 games of the regular season.

The Panthers next game is this Saturday, October 6th at 12pm in a CUNY Conference match-up vs. the Broncos of Bronx Community College.  The winner of this game will clinch the CUNY Conference regular season championship and an automatic berth into the CUNY Conference Championship game.
