Women’s Volleyball Earns Split In Region 15 Road Double Dual, Aurel Moves Into Top 10 In All-Time Career Kills and Blocks

Brooklyn, New York - The BMCC women's volleyball team got revenge for a tough five-set loss two weeks ago against Region 15 opponent Kingsborough Community College, defeating the Wave in straight sets (25-16, 25-23, 25-23), then finished the day with a gritty effort but fell in four sets to Queensborough Community College to earn a split in their first road double dual of the year on Saturday afternoon at Kingsborough Community College. The Panthers record now stands at 5-3 (3-3 Region XV).

Sophomore Emmanuella Aurel (Port Au Prince, Haiti) and freshman Jaylynn Mateo (Brooklyn, New York) spearheaded the Panther's offensive effort, smashing a team-best seven kills each. Freshman Kavana Liburd (Queens, New York) distributed a team-best 21 assists, and classmates Ishinay Lennon (Bronx, New York) and Christvy Taha (Brooklyn, New York) both placed a team-high four service aces each.

Aurel led the Panthers on defense with three digs, while Mateo had one solo block.

Aurel led BMCC on offense in game two with a team-best nine kills, while Andrea Perez-Guzman (Brooklyn, New York) and Mateo chipped in with seven and six kills, respectively. Liburd registered her second straight 20-assist effort on the afternoon, handing out a game-high 28 assists.

Lennon led the Panthers on the backline with a team-high five digs, while Aurel recorded a game-high three solo blocks and Perez-Guzman had two.

Queensborough Community College had two double-digit kill efforts on offense, with Melanie Chuu leading the charge with a game-best 12 kills while Michelle Liu uncorked 11 kills. Isabel Torres dished out a team-high 26 assists, and Chuu also recorded a game-high six service aces. Defensively, the Tigers had four players with double-digit dig games, with Cynthia Saravia Reye leading the way with a game-best 17 digs. Chuu had 15 digs, while Liu and Samantha Mateo chipped in with 13 and 12 digs, respectively.

The Panthers will look for the season sweep against Region 15 opponent Bronx Community College on Thursday, October 3, at 6 p.m. at BMCC Gymnasium. For more information, visit the BMCC Women's Volleyball Schedule Page.
