New York, New York - The BMCC women's volleyball team was swept in both Region 15 double dual matches at home Saturday afternoon in straight sets by Dutchess Community College and Orange County Community College at BMCC Gymnasium. Both losses dropped BMCC's record to 6-5 (4-5 Region XV) on the year.
Freshman Jaylynn Mateo (Brooklyn, New York) led the Panther's offense in game one, smashing a team-high five kills, while classmate Devon Vazquez (New York, New York) placed a team-best two service aces. Sophomore Emmanuella Aurel (Port Au Prince, Haiti) led BMCC on the backline with a team-best 15 digs, helping her hit the 500 career dig plateau and extend her all-time program lead for career digs.
Freshman Ishinay Lennon (Bronx, New York) also contributed on defense in game one with 11 digs.
After both teams traded the first ten points, Dutchess Community College opened up an 11-6 lead before the Panthers went on a 5-0 run to tie it up at 11 on a Lennon kill. After an Aurel kill tied it at 12, the Falcons took over the rest of the set with a 10-0 run to lead 22-12 and take it 25-16.
The Falcons would roll the following two sets, taking them 25-13 and 25-15 to take the match.
Dutchess Community College's offense was spearheaded by Riley Gemmel, who posted a double-double, uncorking a game-high 11 kills and chipping in with 13 digs. Jasmin Gomez distributed a game-best 25 assists. Katrina Carmel registered a game-high six service aces and chipped in with seven kills. Cali Delvecchio led the Falcons on the backline with a game-best 24 digs, while Carmel chipped in with 13 of her own.
Aurel led BMCC in game two with her team-leading second double-double of the season and the sixth of her career, dishing out a game-high 16 assists and recording a team-best 18 digs. Aurel posted a team-high two service aces and now has registered 521 career digs to add to her all-time program lead for career digs. Mateo also contributed to the offensive attack with a team-high six kills.
Freshman Bianca Zwerlein (Brooklyn, New York) posted a career-high with 11 digs on defense in game two.
The Panthers scored three of the first five points of the first set, capped off by a Vazquez kill, and took a 5-3 lead after an Orange County Community College attack error. The Colts would ring off four of the following five points to lead 9-4 after a Lily Noteboom kill and take control, leading by eight, their largest of the set, and taking it 25-16.
After the Colts rolled to a 25-8 win in the second set, the Panthers battled hard in the final set, jumping out to an 8-3 advantage on a Mateo kill and then building their lead to six, the largest of the set, 13-7 and 15-9. Orange County Community College would put together a 13-3 run to tie it up at 17 and increase their lead to four, 21-17, on a Noteboom service ace. The Panthers scored three straight points to get within one, 21-20, on an Aurel service ace before the Colts scored four of the final five points to take the set and the match 25-21.
Araceli Ospina spearheaded the Orange County Community College offensive attack with a game-high nine kills. Lily Noteboom distributed a team-best 11 assists and placed a game-high seven service aces. Grace Malzahn led the Colts on the backline with a team-best 17 digs, and Gabriella Dandrade chipped in with 13 of her own.
