Charlotte, North Carolina - After capturing the program's third consecutive Conference Championship 5-1 over Queensborough Community College yesterday, the BMCC men's soccer team moved up to No. 9 in the NJCAA Division III Men's Soccer Week 8 poll, as announced by the NJCAA on Monday. The Panthers entered the NJCAA polls last week at No. 10 for the first time since the 2000s. BMCC is the conference's first three-peat champion since Queensborough Community College did it in 2013, 2014, and 2015. The Panthers also claimed their league-best 15th Conference Title.
BMCC is one of three Region 15 men's soccer teams ranked in the Top 10, with Nassau Community College also climbing in the polls to fourth in the country while Monroe-Bronx came in at No. 10.
The Panthers' depth was on display yesterday in the 2024 CUNY Community College Men's Soccer Championship as freshman forward Edwin Santos (Brooklyn, New York), who just joined the team this month, was named the Championship Game MVP after registering three points with the match's opening goal and an assist in the contest. Santos buried a left-footed roller into the low right pocket to give BMCC a 1-0 lead on a feed from NJCAA Division III Men's Soccer Player of the Week, Sebastien George (Brooklyn, New York) in the second minute.
Classmates Aboubacar Barry (Brooklyn, New York), Bangaly Soumahoro (New York, New York), and Salim Anas (Bronx, New York) all found the back of the net as part of a Panthers offensive explosion that built a 4-0 halftime advantage, with three of the four goals coming in the first 20 minutes. Freshman Waseem Mohamed (Bronx, New York) grabbed the fifth marker of the day from the Panthers from Soumahoro, who also registered three points in the match. The Panthers outshot the Tigers 18-10 overall in the match and dominated the corners 5-3, while freshman keeper El Momar Coundoul (Bronx, New York) picked up his eighth victory of the season and stopped five shots.

The Panthers will look to keep it on that dial when they host fifth-seeded Ulster County Community College for the second time this season in the 2024 Region 15 quarterfinals on Saturday, October 26, at 1 p.m. at Pier 40. For more information, visit the BMCC Men's Soccer Schedule.
