Panthers Drop Region XV Contest To Monroe-Bronx; Kennedy Becomes Seventh Player In School History To Reach 500 Career Points

New York, New York - The BMCC women's basketball team lost to NJCAA Division III No. 15 nationally ranked Monroe-Bronx 94-61 at home Tuesday evening at BMCC Gymnasium. The Panthers dropped to 3-10 (4-8 Region 15), while the Express improved to 9-6 (6-1 Region 15).

Freshman Mariah Wigfall (New York, New York) put up a career night with her first career double-double, dropping a game and career-high 16 points and hauling down a game and career-best 12 rebounds, and missing a triple-double by two steals with eight on the night also a new career mark and another game best. Sophomore Emily Kennedy (Brooklyn, New York) scored in double figures for a team-high 12th time this year with 15 points while joining freshman Patricia Perez (Brooklyn, New York) to dish out a team-high tied three assists. 

Kennedy became the seventh player in program history to reach 500 career points, finishing the game with 508 career points, moving her alone into seventh all-time in program history, surpassing Aiyana Harris's total of 493 career points from 2011-2013

Freshman Sheliyah Jackson (Bronx, New York) swatted a team-high two shots in the contest.

The Panthers gobbled up 20 plus steals for the third time this season as freshmen Kamella Ross (Bronx, New York) and Negelle Edwards (New York, New York) had three each, while teammates Stephany Coward (Queens, New York) and Jackson joined Kennedy with two apiece.

The Express raced out of the gate with a 14-1 run in the first quarter and never looked back, leading 22-9 after the period, building on that to take a 44-34 lead into halftime and coasting the rest of the second half en route to a 94-61 victory.

The Express had three players score in double figures in the contest, with Daysiah Smith putting up a game-high 43 points, the second most in school history, while dishing out a game-best five assists. Tymere Moorer scored 12 points off the bench and vacuumed up a game-best seven steals, while Angeleny Cobos chipped in with 10 points of her own. Davian Myersm, Moorer, and Smith took down a team-high seven boards in the game.

Emily Kennedy (Brooklyn, New York) has put up double-digit scoring efforts in all 12 games and 24 straight times dating back to the 2022-23 season, with 25 double-figure games in her last 26 contests. 
Kennedy ranks in the top ten nationally in two statistical categories, ranking sixth in the country in steals per game (4.9) and seventh in the nation in steals (59)
- Kennedy is the Panthers top player leading the squad in 12 different categories in points (235), scoring average (19.6), field goals made (80), field goals attempted (183), free throws made (69), free throws attempted (115), rebounds (108), rebounding average (9.0), assists (59), assists per game (4.9), steals (59), and steals per game (4.9)
Kennedy is fifth all-time in career steals with 109 and the fifth in program history to snatch 100 plus steals for her career.
- Kennedy also moved alone into seventh all-time in career assists with 96 passing Kristen Merrell's total of 94 career assists from 2014-15.
Kennedy also is 12th all-time in school history with 233 career rebounds.
- Freshman Mariah Wigfall (New York, New York) is second on the Panthers with 84 rebounds, seven rebounds per game, and 38 steals.
- Wigfall has recorded back-to-back double-digit rebounding performances and has three on the season.
