Greenwood, Indiana - Borough of Manhattan Community College men's soccer sophomore
El Hadji Ady Gaye (Dakar, Senegal) continues to rack up Academic postseason accolades, adding another one to his resume on Tuesday as the first-ever Panther student-athlete in school history to be selected by CSC (formerly CoSIDA) for its 2022-23 Academic All-District® and Academic All-America® programs. In addition, Gaye is now eligible to be nominated for the highly prestigious CSC Academic All-America team.
The CSC Academic All-District® College Division At-Large Team recognizes student-athletes from all sponsored sports two-year colleges, Canadian Institutions, and any other institution not affiliated with the NCAA or the NAIA. Student-Athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or better at their current institution, be a prominent contributor on their team, compete in at least 50 percent of their team's scheduled competitions, and complete at least one full calendar year at their current academic institution while being on a college roster in that sport for two years.
"It is great to hear that El Hadji has received another academic accolade to go along with all of his athletic accomplishments," said
Matthew Ruiz, Director of Athletics & Recreation at BMCC. "This award couldn't have been given to a better student-athlete."
"El Hadji had a tremendous playing career at BMCC, and he matched it with his success in the classroom," said Dakota Olson, BMCC Assistant Director of Athletics & Recreation. "It is outstanding that the CSC recognized this and named him to the Academic All-District team."
Last Thursday,
Gaye became the 19th athlete in BMCC Athletics history to capture the
CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the 2022-23 Athletic season and the first member of the Panthers men's soccer team to receive it since
Lamarana Diallo (Ziguinchor, Senegal) received it after the 2019-20 season. The sophomore forward from Senegal was a dual threat during his time at 199 Chambers Street, getting it done in the classroom and on the soccer field.
Gaye, an
Engineering Science major, maintained a 3.98 cumulative grade point average while earning a spot on the Dean's list honors two times during four of his semesters at BMCC. He also received BMCC Foundation Inc. Scholarship honors three times in 2019, 2021, and 2022 along with
2022 CUNYAC Fall Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll recognition.
Gaye made his presence known during his 27 career appearances during his two-year career for the Panthers men's soccer program. During his time on the pitch for BMCC,
Gaye was Mr. Clutch leading his team to their 12th and 13th conference championship in exciting fashion,
assisting on the game-winning goal on a corner in the 2019 CUNYAC Final and burying both regulation goals and
netting the game-clinching marker in penalty kicks during the 2022 Conference Championship. He earned the
2022 CUNYAC CC Men's Soccer Championship MVP with his effort and also became the sixth player in program history to receive
CUNYAC Player of the Year accolades.
Gaye also was named
All-Region 15 First Team and concluded his career with
31 career points, and his
13 career goals are tied
eighth most in program history with
Ryuichiro Yasuda.
The national ballot for the 2022-23 CSC Academic All-America® College Division At-Large Team officially opens with Tuesday's announcement of the Academic All-District® Team. In addition, the 2022-23 CSC Academic All-America® College Division At-Large Men's Team will be revealed on Thursday, June 22nd.
