Bellerose, New York – BMCC Baseball was defeated 32-3 by Suffolk Community College in Region 15 play at home on Tuesday afternoon at Padavan-Preller Complex. The Sharks improved to 8-7 (7-2 Region XV) with the victory, while the Panthers fell to 2-11 (2-9 Region XV) with the loss.
Sophomore
Frank Reyes (Brooklyn, New York) led the Panther offense with his team-leading seventh multi-hit game with a team-best two hits. Classmates
Maxwell Jimenez (Dominican Republic) and
Abdel Raheem Dolah (Brooklyn, New York) joined freshman
Nicholas Mattera (Moorpark, California) and
Luis Ramirez (Brooklyn, New York) with one hit apiece.
Reyes also unloaded his team-high seventh double of the season, and Mattera smacked his second triple of the season, tying Reyes for the team lead. Reyes is currently tied for sixth in program history with 36 career hits. Ramirez also stole a base in the contest.
Suffolk got out of the gate quickly, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning, then BMCC responded in the bottom of the inning to cut the deficit down to 3-2 after one.
Reyes led off with a sizzling single to centerfield and was brought across home plate for the Panther's first run when Mattera unloaded a triple into right field. Freshman Peter Marino (New York, New York) would grab an RBI on a ground out to second to cut the Suffolk advantage to one 3-2 going into the top of the second.
The Sharks scored three more runs in the top of the second to stretch the advantage to 6-2, and BMCC added one more in the bottom of the inning to get the deficit down to 6-3 on a Reyes line-drive RBI double.
Suffolk took over from there and shut the door on the Panther's offense scoring seven in the top of the third and five in the top of the fourth blow opening the lead to 18-3 and cruising the rest of the way to victory.
