Panthers Rally For Thrilling 6-5 Walk-Off Victory Over Queensborough On Ninth Inning Passed Ball

Bellerose, New York – Sophomore Abdel Raheem Dolah (Brooklyn, New York) stood 90 feet away from home plate, determined to end it in the bottom of the ninth. After a monstrous lead off third base during teammate Eric Cruz Jr.'s (Brooklyn, New York) five-pitch at-bat, he took off on a passed ball to cross home to complete BMCC baseball's comeback over Queensborough C.C. in CUNYAC play Friday afternoon at Padavan-Preller Complex. The Panthers have won back-to-back contests for the first time since the 2018 season improving to 2-2 (2-0 CUNYAC), while the Tigers drop to 0-2 (0-2 CUNYAC) with the loss.

Sophomore Frank Reyes (Brooklyn, New York) led the Panther's offensive attack with his team-best third straight multi-hit game with a game-high three hits (two singles and a double) and tied for another with two runs scored while his RBI was one of the Panthers three seventh-inning runs. Freshman Jeffrey Roldan (New York, New York) led the Panthers with two RBIs and scored a run, while Raheem Dolah connected on two hits for his second straight multi-hit game and scored the game's winning run. Freshmen Peter Marino (New York, New York), Peter Rodriguez Reyes (Bronx, New York), Maxwell Jimenez (Dominican Republic), and Cruz Jr. all recorded hits in the game.

Freshman Adonis Suarez (Queens, New York), who picked up the victory, played a crucial part in the Panther's comeback victory, taking the ball in the top of the sixth and throwing four innings of shutout baseball with three strikeouts while allowing just two hits.

The Panther's offense struggled on the afternoon, being held to just two runs over the first six innings as Tiger starting pitcher Sean Lynch pitched a gem going six innings with six strikeouts and allowing eight hits and five runs with two walks.

Queensborough wasted no time getting on the board in their second game of the season, putting up three runs in the top of the first. Noah Tannenbaum wasted no time cranking a lead-off single to center field to get things started for the Tigers before coming across for the game's first run when Sean Lynch reached on a Rodriguez-Reyes error making it 1-0. Then after a James Cummins walk and Joel Oferman reached on an error, Gabriel Espinal's pop fly with two outs would be mishandled by Suarez, allowing two more runs to score, giving Queensborough a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the first.

Marino got the start for the Panthers and struck out a career-high seven batters while allowing five hits and four runs during five innings of work. The righthander from New York, New York, bounced back in the top of the second, retiring all three batters before helping his teammates on offense in the bottom of the second with a lead-off single and coming across on an error by Cummins to cut the deficit to 3-1 after two. After Marino retired the Tigers in order in the top of the third, Reyes led off the bottom of the inning with a single and was brought across on a Roldan sacrifice fly RBI to trim the Queensborough lead to one, 3-2 after three. Cummins would make up for his error two innings ago with a sizzling triple to deep left field to lead things off for the Tigers in the top of the fourth and came across to increase the lead to 4-2 when teammate Dauri Garcia's fly ball was misplayed in left by sophomore Gerardo Galan Berihuete (Brooklyn, New York).

The Tigers added another run in the top of the sixth, cashing in on two straight walks to open the inning by Espinal and Garcia when Tannenbaum unloaded a single to right field to get the lead to 5-2 going into the bottom of the sixth. After three straight Panthers were retired in the bottom of the sixth, Suarez kept them within striking distance going into the bottom of the inning, retiring three of the four batters he faced in the top of the seventh.

Rodriguez-Reyes started things off with a single in the bottom of the seventh, then was advanced on freshman Luis Ramirez's (Brooklyn, New York) sacrifice to the pitcher, then was brought across the plate on a Reyes double. Roldan ripped a hard RBI double to get the lead down to one, 5-4, then tied it up at five when he scored at home on a fielder's choice.

In the eighth inning, both teams had opportunities to bring the winning run across as Tannenbaum used a two-run walk to get 90 feet from home plate but was denied after Suarez got Brandon Carabello to fly to left field. Leonardo Alvarez stopped an offensive threat in the bottom of the eighth by getting Roldan to fly to shortstop with Cruz Jr. at third base. Suarez retired three of the four batters, including the final two, after a Lynch double in the top of the ninth.

Raheem Dolah smacked a one-out single to get the winning run on for the Panthers in the bottom of the ninth, then Marino worked a walk on a four-pitch at-bat with Cruz Jr. coming up to the plate. During Cruz Jr.'s six-pitch at-bat, Raheem Dolah would steal third, and then after Cruz Jr. swung and missed, he darted down the third base line and planted his right foot into home plate, capping the Panther's come-from-behind victory 6-5.

Reyes and Jimenez were huge, registering a team-best tied seven putouts a piece.

Espinal recorded a game-high 12 putouts, and Alvarez took the loss for the Tigers, pitching two innings and allowing one run on two hits while striking out five.

The Panther's weekend doubleheader against Queensborough on Sunday, March 26, has been postponed due to inclement weather, so they will look to extend their winning streak to three on the road next Tuesday, March 28, against CUNYAC CC Championship runner-up Bronx Community College at 3:30 p.m. at Ohio Field in the Bronx, New York.
