Paterson, New Jersey – After two years off the court, the Panther women's volleyball team returned to intercollegiate competition on Wednesday night at Passaic County Community College. BMCC battled hard in their season opener but fell in straight sets (20-25,11-25,20-25) to Passaic County Community College. Passaic County Community College picked up their first win of the season, improving to 1-2, while BMCC fell to 0-1.
Freshman Emmanuella Aurel (New York, New York) led the offense with four kills and a .375 hitting percentage while dishing out a team-high three assists. Sophomore Xheni Doci (Saluzzo, Italy) and freshman Sarah Lee (Staten Island, New York) placed a team-best three service aces. Johana Boleaga Ramirez (Brooklyn, New York) also contributed on offense with three kills of her own.
Lee led the Panthers defensively with 11 digs, while fellow underclassman Cheyenne Gray-Taitt (Harlem, New York) registered a team-best four blocks.
Brenda Chumbes Arism and Kanira Long spearheaded the offense for PCCC with a team-high four kills, while Ihiandra Brito dished out a game-high 11 assists. Melanny Gonzalez placed a game-best five service aces and led PCCC defensively with game-high 10 digs.
The Panthers will search for their first win of 2022 on the road Saturday afternoon in the Bronx on September 10 against CUNYAC opponent Bronx Community College at Alumni Gymnasium.
