Amaziah Richberg's Career-High 22 Point Effort Propels Men's Basketball 80-60 Victory Over Passaic County C.C. On The Road

Paterson, New Jersey - The BMCC men's basketball team jumped all over Passaic County C.C. from the opening tip and never looked back during a dominant 80-60 road victory on Tuesday night in Paterson, New Jersey. The Panthers ended their two-game skid improving to 2-4 with the victory, while PCCC fell to 3-4 with the loss.

The Panthers had four players score in double figures for the second time this season, led by freshman Amaziah Richberg's (Brooklyn, New York) fourth-straight double-digit scoring performance and career and game-high 22 points on team-high 9-of-16 shooting. Richberg also handed out a team-high four assists while classmate Leverson Tulien (Roslyn Heights, New York) posted his team-leading third double, scoring 18 points and hauling down a team-high 10 rebounds. In addition, sophomore Jeremiah Cardi (New York, New York) and freshman Daniel Laffitte (New York, New York) chipped in with 15 and 10 points, respectively.

Richberg, Cardi, and Laffitte all had a team-best three steals apiece and Tulien turned away a team-high two shots in the contest to lead the Panthers defensively.

BMCC hit the 80-point mark for the third time this season and the second time on the road after posting a season-high 83 points in their season opener against Rockland Community College. The Panthers shot a season-best 53.2% from the field (31-67 FG) and grabbed a season-high 15 steals.

BMCC also scored 19 points off 13 PCCC turnovers while outscoring them in the paint 46-28 and outrebounding them 36-31.

The Panthers got off to a fast start with the game's first seven points, then PCCC scored five straight points with a Noel Rosa layup at 17:10, making it 7-5. BMCC would roll off an 8-2 run to lead by nine, 16-7 at the 13:16 mark on a Richberg three-point play before PCCC got back within three, 18-15 at 10:28 on a Malamin Kaba three-pointer. After a Kaba two-pointer got PCCC within two, 24-22, BMCC closed on a 12-5 run to lead 36-27 at halftime.

The Panthers kept up their strong effort in the second half, grabbing nine of the first 12 points to their lead to double digits for the first time on the night by 11, 41-30 on a Richberg layup from the left block and a Tulien fast-break dunk at 17:12 to stretch it to 13, 43-30. PCCC mounted one more charge by scoring 12 of the following 19 points to get the Panther's lead down to eight, 50-42, on a Joseph Mazzalo three-pointer at 11:38.

BMCC would take it over from there, outscoring PCCC 26-14 over the next 8:34 to get their lead to 20 for the first time on the night, their largest on a three-point play by at 2:44 and keeping it at that mark en route to an 80-60 victory.

BMCC would take it over from there, outscoring PCCC 30-18 the rest of the way to get their lead to 20 for the first time on the night on a three-point play by Ysaia Marte (Bronx, New York) with 2:44 remaining. Joshua Cardi's (New York, New York) jumper from the free throw line with 13 seconds left gave the Panthers their largest lead of the night, 22, 80-58, and they cruised the rest of the way to an 80-60 victory.

Passaic County Community College had three different players register double-digit scoring efforts led off the bench by Malamin Kaba's team-high 12 points. Devinir Garvey and Joseph Mazzalo contributed 10 points each. Garvey also hauled down a team-high nine rebounds while Mazzalo and Stanley Miller dished out a team-best three assists apiece.

The Panthers will look for back-to-back victories for the first time this season when they return to CUNYAC action next Tuesday, November 29, against Kingsborough Community College at 8 p.m. in Brooklyn, New York. For more information, visit the BMCC Men's Basketball Schedule Page.
