New York, New York | The BMCC men's soccer team played Regional opponent Monroe College Express to an unfortunate 2-2 tie at home Friday afternoon at Pier 40. With the win, the Panthers' record moves to 0-0-1 on the year, while the Express move to 2-0-1 and 1-0-1 in region play.
Freshman
Djiby Diallo opened the scoring early, firing a rocket off the left post in the 11th minute, and again in the 42nd minute, to give the Panthers a 2-0 advantage at halftime. BMCC's own goal in the 46th minute gave the Express life and cut their lead to one. Monroe College scored on a penalty kick by freshman Andres Lora in the 68th minute to tie it up.
Both teams had glorious opportunities to take the lead in the 89th minute. The Express sent a header wide left while a BMCC shot from inside the 18 was turned away over the crossbar.
The Panthers recorded just one shot in the first 10-minute, golden-goal period. In the second overtime, BMCC produced three shots with two of them going on goal and remaining out of the net.
Sophomore goalie
Miguel Alvarez (Queens, New York) made three stops in net for the Panthers and Fred Guillou denied three for the Express.
The Panthers open up CUNYAC Conference action this Tuesday, Sept. 10, on the road at Bronx Community College. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Ohio Field in Bronx, N.Y.
