Watch: BMCC Midfielder Seydou Diallo's Game Winning OT PK GOAL
New York, New York | With a two-game winning streak, including back-to-back victories over Regional teams, the BMCC men's soccer team was looking to extend its good fortunes on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers extended their winning streak to three, edging Westchester C.C., 2-1, in overtime. BMCC improves to 7-2-1 (6-2-1 Region XV) while the Vikings fall to 7-3-0 overall (6-3-0 Region XV).
Both teams played a scoreless opening period as BMCC totaled 11 shots (six on goal) to Westchester Community College's six (none on goal).
BMCC finally broke the scoreless tie in the 53rd minute, when sophomore midfielder Edison Burgos (Guayaquil, Ecuador) placed a beautifully struck corner on the foot of freshman forward Djiby Diallo (New York, New York) to give BMCC the 1-0 lead.
After a takedown in the Penalty box in the 62nd minute, Westchester Community College received a penalty kick. Sophomore Jose Tovar buried it in the back of the net to knot the match up at 1-1.
Westchester Community College had a chance to take the lead, but Diallo denied a shot from freshman Tuane Tapper in the 71st minute. Neither team provided a go-ahead marker the rest of the way, and the score remained tied at one apiece after two halves.
The Panthers had two opportunities to end it in the extra session. After Viking sophomore goaltender Guilherme Grizzly denied freshman midfielder Seydou Diallo (Brooklyn, New York) and classmate Michael Konadu (Kwahu, Ghana) chances in 94th and 97th minute, Seydou was taken down in the box and scored the winner on a penalty kick for a 2-1 victory.
Freshman goalkeeper Apelete Amehon (Kara, Togo (West Africa) made two stops in the match, while Grizzly had ten saves.
