New York, NY | Taking the court for the first time since the mid-season break began three weeks ago, the men's and women's basketball team matched up against the Nassau Lions in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. As the Lady Panthers were unable to keep up with the explosive offense of the Lions, and the Panthers fell just short in a 80-78 defeat, both teams would have to wait a little longer for their first win of the 2019 calendar year.
Despite the outcome, the Lady Panthers seemed to have found another weapon on offense with freshman
Daisaiah Smalls turning a season-high in playing time into 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Samsara Paul poured in 11 points while
Lauren Malcolm filled up the stat sheet with 8 points, 11 rebounds and 4 steals.
The men's game was a thriller between two of the top teams in the region, but in the end the Lions would ride a 40-point performance from their star player to escape BMCC gymnasium with a win. Though there was a long gap in between games, Panthers forward
Ashan Adams did not need long to shake off the rust. The sophomore scored a team-high 24 points and grabbed 12 boards, including 7 on the offensive glass.
BMCC will return to action next Thursday to take on SUNY Orange in a women's/men's doubleheader. Tip off is set for 5:45 pm.
