Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | By Dakota Olson

Panthers knock off reigning champion Lions to remain undefeated

New York, NY | The Panthers undefeated record was on the line when they took on Nassau on Monday night, the Lions were ranked 5th in the preseason polls and had not lost in a Region 15 match entering the match. In front of a home crowd at Pier 40, the BMCC men's soccer team held the two-time defending regional champions without a goal for 90 minutes to come away with a 4-0 victory to push the win streak to six matches.

Following thirty minutes of scoreless back and forth action, Coach Seck substituted in midfielder Mohamed Diakhate. This early lineup move paid dividends for the Panthers, as seconds after being subbed in Diakhate found Brando Guzman on a through ball that he took and placed into the net to break the deadlock. BMCC created another opportunity on with a corner kick in the 37th minute that landed in a pile of players in front of goal and hit off of a Nassau player for an own goal. The Panthers closed out the half with a goal by Jahvaughnie Johnson off of a pass from Aboubacar Keita. With a three goal lead, the Panthers defense comprised of Otto Sabalza, Ryoshiro Koiso, Amara Soumare and El Hadji Badji did not let up in the second half, allowing just 1 shot on goal during the match, which was promptly saved by goalkeeper Dhondup Tharchen to keep the shutout intact. In the 62nd minute, Johnson would singlehandedly take on seemingly the whole Lions defense and somehow find an opening for a shot that resulted in an absolutely unbelievable goal.

With a huge win in the books, the Panthers will have a few days to rest before they return to action on Saturday to take on the Bronx Broncos at Ohio Field.
