New York, NY | On Saturday afternoon the men's and women's basketball teams squared off against one of the top basketball programs in the region, the Sullivan County Generals. Despite a tight first half in the women's game, the Lady Panthers would let the game slip away in the second half and lost by a final score of 77-60. The men's team battled against the Generals for the entire game, but would come up short in the 80-72 defeat.
The Lady Panthers struggled defensively against the fast-paced Sullivan offense, allowing the Generals to shoot 32-for-67 (.478) from the floor. On the offensive side, sophomore
Eugenie Maguire led BMCC by shooting 7-for-10 to finish with 14 points and 6 rebounds.
Natalija Dubrovina scored 13 points and team captain
Ashley Brooks made an impact with 9 points and 9 rebounds.
In the second half of the doubleheader five BMCC players finished the game with 10+ points, but it would not be enough to keep up with the top-ranked Sullivan squad. The Generals had no answer for Panthers sophomore
Jericho Cherisma, as the forward fought his way towards an impressive double-double with 22 points and 22 rebounds to go along with his 2 blocks and 2 steals. On a tough night shooting from behind the arc for BMCC, freshmen
Anthony McClean and Melvin Collins both hit 3 three-pointers and went on to finish with 15 and 10 points, respectively.
Jason Mejia racked up 14 points while grabbing 6 boards and three assists, and
Terrell Fullerton scored 10 points and led the team with 7 assists.
Both teams will be back in action on Tuesday night when they take on the Queensborough Tigers in a CUNYAC showdown. Tipoff is set for 5:30pm in Bayside, NY.
