BMCC Basketball shines on homecoming night

New York, NY | Facing off against the Monroe College (Bronx Campus) for the first time in program history, the men's and women's basketball team put on a show for the home crowd with a pair of blowout victories. The Lady Panthers got the night started with a 60-25 win, then the Panthers followed up with a 103-69 victory.

During the first game of the doubleheader, Nikola Zilakova led the team in scoring with 18 points. Coming off of back-to-back CUNYAC player of the week performances Zilakova continued her impressive streak against the Express, she shot at an efficient 50% from the field. Her sophomore teammate Karina Ortega did damage to the opposing defense with 16 points to go along with 9 rebounds on the night. The two combined to shoot 8 for 14 from behind the arc to lead BMCC to their 6th win in 7 games.

The men's team held a 30 point lead entering the locker rooms at halftime after the team combined to shoot 55% from the floor with 11 first half threes. Team captain Anthony McClean finished with a season high 21 points to lead the Panthers offensively. The 4x CUNYAC Freshman of the Week Quran Dublin filled up the stat sheet with 20 points, 7 assists, 7 rebounds and 4 steals to add to his list of impressive performances this season. With 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists, Panthers shooting guard Lawrence Todman played a large role in creating an insurmountable first half lead. In the win, the team reached the 100 point mark for the second time this season, with scoring contributions coming from all 9 healthy players on the roster.

Both teams will look to ride the momentum from tonight's performance into the weekend games against the Dutchess Falcons. The women's game will tip off on Saturday at 12:30 pm followed by the men's game at 2:30 pm.
