New York, NY | The Panthers and Lady Panthers squared off against the Dutchess Falcons on Saturday in a doubleheader in BMCC Gymnasium. For the second time in three days, both teams ran away with blowout wins over their opponent. The women's basketball team came away with a 75-57 victory, and the men's team followed up by reaching the 100 point mark for the second consecutive game as they won 107-88.
The Lady Panthers improved their record to 7-1 by limiting Dutchess to 38.3% shooting from the field while forcing 19 turnovers. While stifling the Falcons defensively, the BMCC offense erupted to score a season-high 75 points.
Nikola Zilakova was a facilitator for the Lady Panthers' offense as she dished out 9 assists while recording a team-high 24 points. The frontcourt duo of
Karina Ortega and
Jessycca Myers tallied 16 points apiece and combined for 16 rebounds. Freshman
Casey Ferenc recorded her best performance of the season with 8 points and 5 rebounds to help push BMCC past their Region XV opponent.
The men's game featured a showdown between two high-powered offenses, with BMCC coming out on top after outshooting the competition by a wide margin (59.7% - 42.9%). As six players finished with double digit scoring totals,
Curtis Smith came away with a team-leading 25 points while
Quran Dublin finished the day with 22 points and 6 rebounds. In his sophomore season,
Lawrence Todman continues to do a bit of everything for the Panthers, he picked up 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists against the Falcons. With a depleted roster due to injury, the Panthers were still able to rely on their limited bench to provide consistent scoring throughout the game. Led by freshman
Mark Morgan (12 points) and
Eric Johnson Jr. (10 points), the Panthers bench outscored the Falcons bench by an 18 point margin to push BMCC to a decisive victory and improve their record to 8-3 on the season.
After playing 3 games in 5 days, BMCC will have a few day to rest before traveling to Bergen Community College for a matchup against the Bulldogs on Thursday night. Tip off for the first game of the doubleheader is set for 5:30pm in Paramus, NJ.
