New York, NY | The Panthers entered Tuesday night's game against the Bronx Broncos on the brink of elimination from the CUNYAC postseason. Playing with their backs against the wall, the BMCC team rallied back from a 9 point deficit in the first half, then held off a ferocious second half comeback from the Broncos to come away with a 77-73 victory.
Midway through the first half, the Panthers were trailing by 9 as their offense struggled to find quality shots. After a 10 minute lull offensively, a powerful one-handed dunk from
Jericho Cherisma on an assist from Melvin Collins would electrify the BMCC crowd and ignite the Panthers offense. BMCC would end the half on a 27-11 run capped off by a wild jumper from
Anthony McClean to enter halftime with a 36-30 advantage. The Panthers kept the momentum going as they built up a 15 point lead early on in the second half, but a run from the Broncos would tie the game in the final minutes. With a one point lead, the Panthers were charged with a technical foul for calling an extra timeout and the referee awarded the Broncos with a free throw to tie the game with 22 seconds remaining. With the game in his hands,
Terrell Fullerton drove into the lane and hit a go-ahead layup while drawing contact to get the and-1. The Panthers defense held strong in the final possession to come away with their 4
th victory in conference and keep their postseason hopes alive.
Fullerton led all scorers with 27 points after going a perfect 14 of 14 from the charity stripe. Jerry Cherisma had one of his most memorable performances so far this season, the sophomore finished with 23 points on a perfect 8-for-8 from the floor, while keeping the glass clean with 23 rebounds.
