Ceesay, Panthers Ease Past Broncos in Saturday Showdown

New York, NY  |  The men's soccer team kicked of their match against the Bronx Broncos on Saturday morning, with the Panthers looking for another win against a CUNYAC opponent. Following a slow first half with just one shot on goal, BMCC came out of halftime firing on all cylinders. In the first 4 minutes of the second half, the Panthers broke the deadlock and added an insurance goal that would secure the victory. With another goal coming later in the second half, the Panthers would coast to a 3-0 win to put their CUNYAC record at 2 wins and 1 loss.

Without any offensive production from their starters in the first half, the Panthers relied on their defense to keep them in the game. The back line comprised of Guillermo Aguilar, Dazougou Pacode, Jean Yeboue, and Daniel Munoz had a stranglehold on the Broncos offense as BMCC limited them one shot on goal in just five attempts in the first half. Bronx continued to struggle to figure out the Panthers defending, and by the end of the match recorded only 5 shots on goal, all of which were saved by goalkeeper Dhondup Tharchen.

After the Panthers were stymied offensively in the first 45 minutes, team captain Peter Ceesay took control with a pair of goals within a minute of each other to open the second half. His first came when Marcus Folkes found Ceesay with a through ball that he shot on target, then a Bronx foul would give the Panthers a free kick within striking distance, and the midfielder promptly buried it into the back of the net. With an assist already recorded, Folkes scored a goal for himself after an Aboubacar Keita shot ricocheted off the keepers gloves and dropped in front of him. With a 3-0 lead, BMCC took care of the ball to earn their third shutout in the last four games.

The Panthers will be back at Pier 40 for the second leg of their 3-game homestand on Wednesday when they take on Dutchess Community College in a Region 15 matchup. This match is set to kick off at 6 pm.
