Fighting Hawks No Match for Red-hot Panthers

New York, NY  | The Panthers offense was explosive today, erupting for 6 goals in the second half to beat Rockland by a final score of 9-0. With the win, BMCC remains atop of the region with a perfect 7-0 record.

For the third consecutive game, BMCC goalkeepers have held the opposing team scoreless. Alexis Orrego kept the shutout streak alive with a diving save on a close range shot from Fighting Hawks in the final minutes of play.

It did not take long for the Panthers to get on the board, with Ulrich Mokolo finding the back of the net in the 4th minute, he would follow this up with another goal coming in the 31st minute for his second 2-goal game of the season. Freshman midfielder Kiran Lama also got in on the early scoring action to record his first goal of the season. Reigning CUNYAC Player of the Week Serigne Kasse picked up an assist in the first three goals of the match. He would finish the game with a season high 4 assists as well as a goal of his own.

With a 3-0 lead at the half, BMCC continued to keep the pressure on their opponents until the final whistle blew. Marcus Folkes started the second half with a goal coming from a Lama cross pass in the 53rd minute. Sophomore forward Kimani Evans used his breakaway speed to score on a through ball from Kasse.

In the final minutes of the game, several players came off the bench and had an immediate impact on the game. Adama Caoulibaly ripped a shot that rebounded off the goalkeepers gloves, leading to an easy attempt for Alexis Vallejo to clean up in front of the net. Eric Poku entered the match with 10 minutes remaining and managed to record an assist and a goal of his own coming from a Vallejo pass. The final goal of the game came when Poku took a corner kick that found Abdoulaye Gueye leaping above the Hawks defense for a perfect header.

The Panthers will return to action on Wednesday, September 30th when they take on their Region XV rivals the Nassau Lions. Come on out to Pier 40 to watch the Men's Soccer team square off against the #2 team in the region. Kickoff is set for 5:30 PM.
