BMCC Women’s Steak Comes to End, Lose to Nassau on the Road

Kristen Merrell still managed 27 points and 12 rebounds in the loss

GARDEN CITY, NY| The Borough of Manhattan Community College women's basketball team was defeated by Nassau Community College in Garden City, NY on Sunday, January 25 by the score of 83-47.

The Lady Panthers, who won their previous two games against Passaic County Community College and Kingsborough Community College, were set to extend their winning streak to three games on Saturday, January 24 against Dutchess, but the game was postponed due to inclement weather. A make-up date has yet to be named.

Instead BMCC was faced with the task of sparing with a 7-0 Nassau side in the road. Despite the sizeable loss, Kristen Merrell maintained her double-double-per-game pace, scoring 27 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.

Ashley Duplan and Kwana Brunson scored five apiece while forward Alexis Hart scored four and collected 10 rebounds.

Nassau's Jenny Pechaceck scored a team-high 24.

The hosts outshot the Lady Panthers 51.4% to 42.4%, although BMCC won the battle of the boards (50-35).

BMCC returns to action on Thursday, January 29 when they and the men welcome Suffolk County Community College to Manhattan. The women kick things off at 6:00 PM and the men will feature in the nightcap with a 8:00 PM tip.
