Lady Panthers Defeat Hostos

Box Score

The Lady Panthers, who were looking to get back on the winning track following their loss to Westchester, were also in search of their 2nd conference victory of the season and were looking to regain sole possession of 1st place in the CUNY Athletic Conference as they traveled to the Bronx to square off against the Caimans of Hostos Community College.  BMCC got off to an early start, especially on the defensive end, as they opened the game on a 7-2 run forcing the Caimans to call time-out with 13:31 remaining in the first half.  Hostos answered that run with a 7-0 run of their own before the Panthers were able to knot up the score at 9 a piece with 7:30 remaining in the opening half of play.  BMCC quickly fell behind again as they began to turn the ball over which the Caimans capitalized on ending the half on a 17-7 run and took a 26-16 lead into the half.  With a 10-point deficit staring the Lady Panthers in the face they knew it was time to focus on the offensive end and take care of the ball with the same verocity they were on the defensive side of the ball.  The Lady Panthers did just that as they stormed out of the locker room and went on a 19-6 run over the first 9-plus minutes of the second half eventually taking a 35-34 lead with 10:20 remaining in the game.  The lead was the first for the Panthers since the 11-minute mark of the first half.  Behind the strong play of Gabrielle Alleyne(Sophomore, Brooklyn, NY), who finished the game as the Panthers leading scorer with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Denea Fleary(Sophomore, Jamaica, NY), who finished the contest with 11 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists, the Lady Panthers were able to pull away from the Caimans for a 54-44 victory!

With the win, the Lady Panthers improve to (4-1 overall, 2-0 conference) and regain sole possession atop the CUNY Athletic Conference standings.  The Lady Panthers will next take the court this Saturday, December 8th in a Region XV road match-up against the Fighting Hawks of Rockland CC.
