Brooklyn, New York – The BMCC Baseball team was defeated 22-5 in CUNYAC play by back-to-back Conference Champion Kingsborough Community College on Tuesday afternoon at Kingsborough Athletics Field. The loss dropped the Panthers to 2-9 (2-5 CUNYAC), while the Wave moved to 11-12 (8-1 CUNYAC).
The Panthers posted their third contest this season with 10 or more hits, with three players posting multi-hit games and eight players grabbing hits overall. Freshmen
Wiljer Casana (Miami, Florida) and
Michael Marra (Staten Island, NY) both posted their team-leading tied third multi-hit game of the season and joined sophomore
Peter Marino (New York, New York), who put up his second multi-hit effort with two hits apiece.
Casana also extended his hitting streak to a season-best seven games.
Sophomores
Peter Rodriguez Reyes (Bronx, New York) and
Julio Liz (Bronx, NY), Marino and freshman
Jose Miguel De Jesus Lebron (Santo Domingo, D.R.) all drove in one run apiece. Sophomore
Adonis Suarez (Queens, New York), freshmen Isaiah Jerry (Brooklyn, NY), Brandon Carrero (Bronx, NY) and
De Jesus Lebron also all had one hit in the game.
Casana also stole a base for a fifth straight game.
Freshman Jariel Irizarry (New York, NY) threw 99 pitches out of the bullpen, going 3.2 innings, allowing seven runs (four earned) on four hits with nine walks and two strikeouts. Sophomore
Conall Moore (New York, New York) finished up on the hill for the Panthers, going 2.1 innings while giving up two runs on three hits with one walk and a strikeout. Freshman
Nassaiah Flores (Bronx, NY) took
the loss for the Panthers, going one inning in his first start of the year with a strikeout.
Marra led the Panthers defensively with a team-high five putouts on the day.
Patrick Jordan earned the Wave's first victory of the year, pitching four innings and surrendering five hits and one run with three strikeouts and three walks.
The Wave scored four runs in the top of the first. Andrew Arditto cleared the bases with an RBI single to right field, scoring Yoskar Guzman. Three more scored on
Christian Sidriyen's (Higuey, D.R.) throwing error to make it 4-0 going into the bottom of the first.
The Panthers couldn't do anything after a two-out single from
Marra in the bottom of the first, then Kingsborough put it away by batting around the order with a 13-run top of the second to stretch their lead to 17-0. Guzman, Filippo Venditti, and Nasir Useini would rip RBI singles with Venditti's single driving in two runs to make it 8-0 then, after three more runs were walked in to make it 11-0, Danny McLaughlin registered an RBI on a sacrifice fly to center field to make it 12-0. Venditti was walked in two batters later, and Thomas Laino ripped a two-run double to make it 16-0 before Sam Lee was walked in for the 13th run of the inning to make it 17-0.
After going three straight innings without a run, the Panthers scored in the final four innings as
Marino connected for an RBI single to center field in the bottom of the fourth, then Liz was walked in.
Rodriguez-Reyes had a sacrifice RBI in the bottom of the fifth before
De Jesus Lebron had an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth, and Suarez scored on a catcher error in the bottom of the seventh. The Wave were able to add to the lead in the process and finished the game up winning it 22-5.
