Garden City, New York - The BMCC baseball team was defeated 19-4 in Region 15 competition against Nassau Community College on Tuesday afternoon at Mitchel Athletic Complex. The Lion moved to 14-10 (13-8 Region XV), while the Panthers dropped to 2-19 (2-19 Region XV).
Sophomore Jeffrey Roldan (New York, New York) led the Panthers on offense with a double and two RBIs, while freshmen Nassaiah Flores (Bronx, NY), Wiljer Casana (Miami, Florida), Christian Sidriyen (Higuey, D.R.), and Rene Perez (Brooklyn, NY) also had hits in the contest.
Sidriyen and Casana led the Panthers with two steals each, a team-best, while sophomore Peter Marino (New York, New York) and Perez stole one base each. Marino moved alone into fifth all-time in program history with 25 career steals, passing Josh Smith, and tied for fifth most in a single season with 17 steals, which also leads the team.

Marino drew a lead-off walk on a five-pitch at-bat, then stole second and came across home plate for the Panther's first run when Casana reached on an error by shortstop Marcello Arrigo. The Lions would take control the rest of the way with eight straight runs, including five in the bottom of the first to lead 5-1. Arrigo got aboard courtesy of an error by De Jesus Lebron, then came across for the tying run after stealing second on an error by Casana fielding a bunt by Sean Richards to knot it up at one all.
Richards would score to give the Lions the lead for good, 2-1, when Joseph Lynn reached on an error in left field by Peter Rodriguez Reyes (Bronx, New York). Ryan Johnston ripped a two-run triple on a line drive to right field to increase the margin to 4-1 and then scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-1 Nassau going after one inning of play.
The Lions scored two in the bottom of the second and one in the bottom of the third to make it 8-1, thanks to a two-run triple by Christopher Picarella in the second and John Dinkelman scoring on a bunt out to the pitcher by Joseph Lynn.
BMCC got as close as 8-3 with two runs in the top of the fourth. Casana led off with a single, and then classmate Michael Marra (Staten Island, NY) drew a walk after working a six-pitch at bat. Sidriyen reached on an error, scoring Casana, and then Roldan grabbed an RBI on a groundout, scoring Marra. The Lions scored six straight in the bottom of the inning to make it 14-3 and would take the game after seven innings 19-4.
