New York, New York – The Borough of Manhattan Community College and BMCC Borough of Manhattan Community College Director of Athletics & Recreation
Matthew Ruiz is excited to announce the addition of the Athletic program's 11th and 12th sport, Track and Field and Men's Volleyball, for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
"I am extremely excited to announce the addition of our 11th and 12th athletic sport at BMCC," said
Ruiz. "Men's Volleyball and Track & Field are two sports we have consistently heard from our student body about adding to the program. Thanks to the support of the BMCC Administration, we are poised to continually grow our athletic program for years to come."
The Panther's Track and Field team will compete in the City of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) and Region XV at the NJCAA. The men's volleyball program will also compete in Region XV at the NJCAA level.
The Panther's Athletics program will now sponsor 11 athletic programs with the men's and women's track and field and men's volleyball joining men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country, women's volleyball, men's and women's basketball, baseball and Esports for the 2023-24 season competing in Region XV and at the NJCAA level.
The City of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) will be affiliated with 10 of the 11 teams, while men's volleyball and Esports join all 11 teams in NJCAA Region XV competition for 2023-24.
Students in their first full-time semester must be enrolled in 12 credit hours to be academically eligible. Returning full-time students must enroll in 12 credit hours with a GPA of 2.00 or higher in their previous semester.
The search is currently underway nationwide for both program's coaching staffs. BMCC Gymnasium will serve as men's volleyball's primary home and practice facility.
