Queens, New York - The Borough of Manhattan Community College Athletic Department made a statement returning their first full Athletic Season since 2019-20, capturing the 2022-23 CUNYAC Community College Commissioner's Cup for a league-best 13th time on Thursday evening at the 36th Annual Michael Steuerman Scholar-Athlete Awards Dinner at Terrace On The Park in Queens, New York. The trophy returns to Downtown Manhattan for the first time since 2018-19.

"When I took over the AD position in the summer of 2021, I put together a 5-year plan, which included bringing BMCC back to the top of the CUNYAC by year two," said Matthew Ruiz, Director of Athletics & Recreation at BMCC. "After nearly a complete rebuild in year 1, we did just that in year two by winning our 13th commissioner's cup! We had some great individual and team accomplishments this year, both academically and athletically! I am grateful for the administration, my staff, and our student-athletes and coaches that made this possible. It's time to celebrate our accomplishments this year and use this as the platform for everything we want to accomplish at the Regional and National level!"

BMCC took the top spot with 81 points outdueling Queensborough Community College finished second with 69 points. The Tigers grabbed their other points for Men's and Women's Cross Country and Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field, while Kingsborough finished third with 36 points.

The Panthers came out of the gate with authority during the fall, separating themselves from everyone with 56 points, with the closest competitor being Queensborough Community College with 37 points. BMCC earned a perfect 30 points in women's volleyball as the Panthers swept the regular season and tournament championships, grabbing their first regular-season title since 2008 and knocking off the six-time defending champion Queensborough Tigers to earn its first CUNYAC Community College Championship since 2006. BMCC's men's soccer program scored 25 points in men's soccer return to the pitch, picking up their league-leading 13th CUNYAC Championship in program history while finishing second during the regular season. In addition, BMCC added one point through participation in women's soccer.

The Panthers qualified for the 2022-23 CUNYAC CC Men's and Women's Basketball Championship, with the women picking up 15 points for finishing as the title game runner-up to champion Hostos Community College and grabbing another five points for their second-place finish during the regular-season while the men picked up 10 points for their runner-up finish to conference champion Queensborough Community College for a total of 25 points.

Queensborough grabbed a whopping 30 points, winning their first Men's Basketball League Championship in 20 years while also capturing the Regular Season Championship for the first time since 2007-08. Hostos picked up 30 points as well for women's basketball grabbing 20 points for the sixth consecutive conference championship and 10 points for the 11th regular season title and their fifth straight.

Kingsborough got 30 of their 36 points in the spring, taking the 2023 CUNYAC CC Baseball Regular-Season title for the second straight season and winning their second consecutive Conference Championship.
