BMCC Women’s Basketball Falls At Home To Suffolk C.C. In Region 15 Action

New York, New York – Suffolk Community College defeated the BMCC women's basketball team in Region 15 play, 67-36, at home on Saturday afternoon at BMCC Gymnasium. The victory improves the Sharks to 9-5 (9-5 Region XV), while the loss drops the Panthers to 5-14 (5-10 Region XV).

Freshman Emily Kennedy (Brooklyn, New York) posted her fourth 20-point game of the season with a team-high 21 points and grabbed another with nine rebounds missing a fourth straight double-double. Kennedy also dished out a team-best two assists while classmate Demaris Andrews (Bayonne, New Jersey) scored seven points, corralled seven boards, and tied with Kennedy for the lead in steals with two apiece.

After an Alicia Tomby (Berbice, Guyana) jumper at 9:32 of the first quarter knotted the game up at two apiece, Suffolk Community College took control from there with a ferocious 12-0 run to lead by 12, 14-2 on an Amy Rice fastbreak layup with 4:31 remaining. The Sharks held the Panthers to just three points in the opening period leading 20-3 after the horn sounded.

BMCC competed better in the second quarter despite being outscored 14-10, but the Sharks continued to stretch their advantage going into halftime with a 34-13 lead. The Sharks would never look back in the second half leading 50-22 after three and cruising to a 67-36 victory.

Suffolk Community College had three players finish in double figures, with Alexandra Walbroehl posting a double-double with a game-high 34 points and 23 rebounds while swatting away a game-best three shots. Aaliyah Shorter scored 14 points while dishing out a game-high three assists and tying another with two steals. Mia Khan contributed 10 points in the contest.

The Panthers look to get a victory during their final home game of the 2022-23 season against CUNYAC top-seed Hostos Community College on Tuesday, February 7, at 5 p.m. at BMCC Gymnasium. For more information, visit the BMCC women's basketball schedule page.
