Women's Basketball Defeated In CUNYAC Action By Hostos Community College At Home

New York, New York – The BMCC Women's basketball team lost to Hostos Community College 93-52 in CUNYAC action on Thursday night at BMCC Gymnasium. The victory moves the Caimans record to 6-2 (2-0 CUNYAC), while the loss drops the Panthers to 2-6 (2-3 CUNYAC).

Sophomore Emily Kennedy (Brooklyn, New York) put up her fifth straight double-double and team-leading sixth of the season with a team-best 15 points while grabbing a game-high tying 11 rebounds. The double-double was the 12th of Kennedy's career, and she also handed out a team-high tied five assists and gobbled up three steals, also a team-high. Freshman Mariah Wigfall (New York, New York) tied for a team-high with five assists and three steals, while classmate Sheliyah Jackson (Bronx, New York) had eight points. Wigfall and Patricia Perez (Brooklyn, New York) had seven boards each.

Hostos Community College had five players score in double figures with two 20-point scoring efforts and one double-double. Kendra Sanchez led the offensive charge with a game-high 22 points and dished out a game-high seven assists, and Vanecia Brown dropped 21 points in the game. Jae'oni Davis and Chyna Bryant chipped in with 14 points, and Demaris Andrews had 11 in the contest. Bryant hauled down a game-high tied 11 rebounds to complete her double-double while Sanchez gobbled up a game-high seven steals.

- Emily Kennedy (Brooklyn, New York) has scored in double figures in all eight games this year and 20 of her last 21 games dating back to the 2022-23 season while recording double-doubles in five of her eight games this season, including seven in her last nine games dating back to last year. She also ranks in the top ten in the country in two statistical categories seventh in the nation in assists per game (5.1) and tenth for in the nation in points per game (20.0).
- Kennedy is the Panthers top player leading the squad in 12 different categories in points (140), scoring average (20.0), field goals made (45), field goals attempted (107), free throws made (47), free throws attempted (77), rebounds (66), rebounding average (9.4), assists (36), assists per game (5.1), steals (29), and steals per game (4.1)
Kennedy moved into eighth all-time in career steals with 79, surpassing Gabrielle Alleyne's and Shareika Parry's total of 78 career rebounds from 2011-2013 and 2001-2002 while also moving into 12th all-time in career points with 413 career points and 13th all-time with 73 career assists which both surpassing Natasha Whitney's totals from 2023-2024. Kennedy also has ripped down 191 career rebounds, which moves her into 15th all-time in program history, passing Jehosheba Foster's total of 186 career rebounds from 2016-2018.
