New York, New York – The BMCC men's basketball team was defeated 77-56 on the road Tuesday night by Westchester Community College in Viking Gymnasium in Valhalla, New York. The Panthers drop to 5-8 overall with loss while the Vikings improve to 5-9.
Freshmen
Isah Mohammed (Lagos, Nigeria) and
Khalil Black (Queens, New York) spearheaded the Panthers offense on the evening, both scoring a team-high 13 points.
Mohammed put up his team-leading fifth double-double, hauling in a game-high 14 rebounds and swatting away a game-high six shots.
Black also knocked down a game-high three three-pointers while classmate
Kimmeo Dixson (Bronx, New York) dished out a career and team-high four assists while tying with sophomore Ysaia Marte (Bronx, New York) and Black for a team-high two steals.
BMCC scored 23 points off 21 Westchester Community College turnovers and got 16 points from their bench while handing double-digit assists for the sixth straight game with 12 assists.
The first nine minutes were back and forth with three lead changes and two ties, with BMCC using a 7-2 run to grab their first lead 9-8 on a
Mohammed layup at 14:49 before Westchester Community College scored the following three points with a Josendy Nova three-pointer putting them back in front 11-9 at 14:23. The Panthers rolled off six consecutive points all coming from
Mohammed – 4-for-4 from the free throw line and a jumper – to get their lead to its largest of the night four, 15-11 at the 13:11 before the Vikings took control into the halftime break outscoring the Panthers 32-15 the rest of the way to lead 47-26 as both teams went into the locker room.
The Panthers played even with the Vikings in the second half, tying them 30-30, but Westchester still was able to roll, building their lead to 28, its largest of the night, 67-39, at 5:21 on a Aaron Nicholas layup and closing it out with a 77-56 victory.
Yave Cruz led all scorers for Westchester Community College with a game-high 22 points, while Josendy Nova scored 13 points and tied for a game-best alongside Efrain Davilla with five assists. Cruz also vacuumed up a game-high four steals in the contest.
The Panthers will look to end the 2023 portion of their 2023-24 schedule strong as they conclude it in two days on Thursday, December 21, against 2022-23 Region XIX Champion Raritan Valley on the road in Branchburg, New Jersey, at 1 p.m. For more information, visit the

- Isah Mohammed (Lagos, Nigeria) is tied for second in the nation with 61 blocks and second overall nationally with 4.7 blocks per game.
- Mohammed's team-high 61 blocks surpasses Valon Djombalic's and Emmanuel Adenekan's total of 58 for the seventh-highest in a single season and all-time program history. He has registered five or more blocks in seven of his 13 games this season.
- Mohammed also leads the Panthers with 173 total rebounds and a 13.3 rebounds per game average. He is also sixth in the nation in total rebounds (173) and seventh in the country in rebounding average (13.3), registering a team-best 10 double-digit rebounding games, including three straight double-digit rebounding performances and five double-doubles.
- Khalil Black (Queens, New York) has recorded five straight double-figure games and nine overall for him on the season, which is second on the Panthers.
- Black leads the Panthers in three-pointers made (24) and three-pointers attempted (60), connecting on two or more three-pointers in eight of his thirteen games this season and in his last four games. He is second on the Panthers in total points (169), scoring average (13.0), field goals attempted (139), free throws made (35), free throws attempted (43), and steals (21) while ranking third in field goals made (55).
