Men's Basketball Loses On The Road To Orange County Community College

Middletown, New York – The BMCC men's basketball team was defeated 84-56 by Orange County Community College on Tuesday night in Middletown, New York. The Panthers fall to 3-4 overall with the loss, while the Colts improve to 4-2 with the win.

Sophomore Ysaia Marte (Bronx, New York) registered his team-best sixth double-figure game of the season with a team-high 15 points. Freshman Isah Mohammed (Lagos, Nigeria) recorded his sixth straight double-digit rebounding game with a game-high 11 boards and missed his team-best third double-double by two points with eight on the evening. Mohammed made it seven consecutive contests with three or more blocks, swatting a game-high four on the evening.

Freshman Ja'Lyn Griffin (Ithaca, New York) dished out a team-best three assists, while classmate Nick Baksh (Brooklyn, New York) also led the Panthers on defense with a team-high two steals.

BMCC was not intimidated by an Orange County Community College team that returned numerous players from their 2022-23 NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship Final Four appearance, as Jayden Jarrett (Bronx, New York) gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead early at the 18:43 mark of the first half then the Colts scored the following six points to make it 6-2. Marte would score the next four points to tie it at six. First, he snatched a pass at the top of the key and went coast to coast to cut the lead to two, 6-4, at the 15:02 mark, then scored on a layup from the right block at 14:30 to knot it up.

Both teams traded buckets, with Marte banking it off the glass to tie it at eight at the 13:40 mark. After Orange County Community College scored four straight points to make it 12-8 at 12:21, Kimmeo Dixson (Bronx, New York), who had a career-high six points on the night, drained a jumper from the right elbow at 11:01 to make it a one-possession game. The Colts closed the first half on a tear, outscoring the Panthers 25-7 down the stretch to lead 37-17 at halftime.

Orange County Community College would not let the Panthers gain any momentum in the second half, coasting to an 84-56 victory.

Orange County Community College had four players score in double figures, led by Tyreke Harewood, who dropped a game-high 18 points. Marquis Gill and Daniel Lans contributed 14 points, while Jaidyn Rutling had 10 points. Harewood led the Colts on the glass with nine rebounds while Jared Smalls distributed a game-high eight assists, and Gill snagged a game-best seven steals.

The Panthers return to action after the Thanksgiving holiday at home for a CUNYAC battle between Kingsborough Community College on Tuesday, November 28, at 7 p.m. at the BMCC Gymnasium. For more information, visit the BMCC Men's Basketball Schedule Page.
