Poughkeepsie, New York – The BMCC women's basketball team was defeated 72-49 by Dutchess Community College in Region 15 action on the road Saturday afternoon in Poughkeepsie, New York. The loss drops the Panthers to 1-4 (1-3 Region XV) while the Falcons stay perfect with the win moving to 4-0 (3-0 Region XV).
Sophomore
Emily Kennedy (Brooklyn, New York) kept up her outstanding production, pacing the Panthers offense with a team-high 19 points and bringing down a team-best tied 10 boards for her third straight double-double and team-leading four of the season and tenth of her career. Kennedy also dished out a game-high tied four assists while freshman
Stephany Coward (Queens, New York) recorded a career-high 14 points in the contest. Classmate
Mariah Wigfall (New York, New York) added to a new career-high, snatching a career-best and team-best tied 10 boards.
Sophomore Brynanh Sledge (Brooklyn, New York) led the Panthers on defense, snatching a career- and game-best four steals, while
Kennedy and
Wigfall had three steals each, and
freshman Jania Simmons (Brooklyn, New York) had two
.
After both teams traded the first eight points of the contest, Dutchess would build their first double-digit lead with an 11-0 run to lead 15-4 at the 6:22 mark of the first quarter. The Panthers would trim the deficit down to eight, 15-7, at the 5:29 mark on a
Coward layup, but that was as close as they would get the entire afternoon as the Falcons led 22-13 after one quarter of play and held BMCC to eight second-quarter points to take a 39-21 lead into halftime.
The Panthers kept fighting, just being outscored in the third and fourth quarters by three, 18-15 after the third and two, 15-13 in the final quarter, despite the result being a 72-49 victory for the Falcons.
Dutchess Community College had three scorers in double figures, led by Franchelis Guzman's game-high 20 points, while Alexis Ochoa-Pena and Tiffany Gonzalez chipped in with 18 and 12 points. Shalanda Lefevre brought down a game-high 18 rebounds and missed a double-double by two points with eight points, while Ochoa-Pena dished out a game-best tied four assists while joining Guzman with a team-high three steals, and Skyla Watts led them in the paint with a game-high two blocks.
The Panthers return to the hardwood in two weeks at home in CUNYAC action on Tuesday, November 28 at 5:00 p.m. against Kingsborough Community College at BMCC Gymnasium. For more information, visit the

- Emily Kennedy (Brooklyn, New York) has scored in double figures in 11 of her last 13 games and recorded doubles in four of her five games this season. Six of those seven doubles date back to the 2022-23 season. She also ranks in the top ten in the country in four statistical categories,
