BMCC Women's Volleyball Drops Five-Set Heartbreaker To FIT At Home, Sarah Sellami Blasts A Career-High 25 Kills

New York, New York – The BMCC women's volleyball team came out swinging from the start of their Region 15 battle against Fashion Institute of Technology, taking the first two sets 25-23 and 25-20 but couldn't shut the door as the Tigers took three straight sets after stealing the match 3-2 on Thursday evening at BMCC Gymnasium in New York, New York. FIT moves to 8-7 (5-3 Region XV) with the victory, while BMCC falls to 3-9 (3-6 Region XV).

The Panthers put together one of their best offensive performances of the season, unloading a season-high 42 kills with six players recording a kill led by freshman Sarah Sellami's (Queens, New York) career-best 25 kills. Sellami also recorded her first career double-double, handling 14 digs, while sophomore Cheyenne Gray-Taitt (Harlem, New York) uncorked eight kills of her own.

Sellami's 20-kill game is the first since Josanne Lewis posted 24 kills last year in the 2022 CUNYAC Community College semifinals against Hostos Community College on October 24th, 2022.

Freshman Silvia Chen (New York, New York) dished out and recorded her team-leading second double-double, dishing out a team-high 30 assists to go along with 14 digs while placing a team-best five service aces. Chen posted her second 30-assist game of the year, while Sellami and fellow underclassman Andrea Richino (New York, New York) also put up four service aces each.

Sophomore Garyana Altidor (Queens, New York) led the Panthers on defense with a team-best 26 digs while smacking a career-best three kills on a .375 hitting percentage, also a career-high.

The Panthers will get back to it in a Region 15 double dual this Saturday, October 14th, against NJCAA Division III No. 8 nationally ranked Monroe College (Bronx) and Nassau Community College at noon at 1:15 p.m. at BMCC Gymnasium.
