Kennedy's Career High 30 Point Night Helps BMCC Women's Basketball Clinch The Second Seed In Upcoming CUNYAC Tournament

Bayside, New York – Tuesday night continues to be Emily Kennedy's (Brooklyn, New York) night for three straight weeks as she dropped a game and new career-high 30 points on a career-best 14-for-31 shooting effort powering BMCC women's basketball to a dominant 64-33 victory over Queensborough Community College in CUNYAC action on Tuesday night at RFK Gymnasium. The Panthers clinch the number two spot for the 2023 CUNYAC CC Women's Basketball Championship with the win 5-13 (5-4 CUNYAC), while the Tigers fall to 6-12 (4-5 CUNYAC).

Classmate Demaris Andrews (Bayonne, New Jersey) posted her team-leading sixth double-double with a new career-high 26 points and 13 rebounds, while fellow freshman Yisneily Morales (Bronx, New York) hauled down a career and team-best 16 rebounds. KennedyAndrews, and sophomore Alicia Tomby (Berbice, Guyana) led the team on defense with a team-best four assists between them.

After both teams traded the first thirteen points with an Isabella Casey jumper at 2:38, cutting the BMCC lead to one, 7-6, the Panthers finished the period on a 9-0 run with a Kennedy layup off a steal from Tomby to make it 16-6 after one.

Queensborough Community College came out strong in the second quarter holding BMCC scoreless first three and half minutes and scoring five straight points to cut the deficit down to 16-11 on a Walters right-handed floater with 7:32 to go. The Panthers would take it from there with a 15-6 run as Andrew's drive and right-handed layin made it an 11-point advantage, 22-11 at 5:01 with a Kennedy three-pointer with one second left stretching the Panthers lead to 14, 31-17 going into the halftime break.

BMCC outscored Queensborough 19-11 in the third quarter and then held the Tigers to just five fourth-quarter points, stretching their lead to its largest of the night 31, 64-33, with 30 seconds to go on Andrews jumper in the fourth quarter.

Nayla Walters led the Queensborough Community College offensive and defensive effort ripping down a game and career-high 29 rebounds and scoring a team-high 20 points. Walters also snatched a team-best two steals, and Isabella Casey chipped in with 12 points.
