New York, New York – The BMCC women's basketball team dropped a Region 15 contest at home to Nassau Community College, 97-38, on Saturday afternoon at BMCC Gymnasium. The victory improves the Lions to 8-8 (6-2 Region XV), while the loss drops the Panthers to 3-13 (3-5 Region XV).
Freshman
Emily Kennedy (Brooklyn, New York) posted her second straight double, dropping a team-high 18 points and missed matching her career-high for rebounds from Tuesday by one with 13, a team-best. Classmate
Demaris Andrews (Bayonne, New Jersey) registered her seventh straight double-figure game with 12 points and dished out a team-high five assists.
Yisneily Morales (Bronx, New York) grabbed a career-best nine rebounds, and
Andrews grasped seven rebounds.
The Lions came out of the gate firing in the first quarter, shooting 63.2% from the field (12-for-19), going on a 22-2 run over the first five and a half minutes, and finished the period with a 29-6 lead then held the Panthers to single digits again in the second quarter to lead 47-12 at halftime.
The Panthers battled hard in the third quarter, putting up 22 points in it and shot 45% from the field (9-for-20), but Nassau C.C. continued to cruise the rest of the way leading 74-34 after three quarters and rolling to a 97-38 victory.
Four of the five Nassau Community College starters registered double-digit scoring efforts, led by sophomore Ashley Vigliotti's game-high 32-point effort. Freshman Mia Cheatham drained 25 points, while classmate Janya Randle put up a double-double with a game-high 17 rebounds, including 10 offensive rebounds, and scored 18 points. Randle rejected a game-high three shots while underclassman Mia Weinshrieder chipped in with 13 points and had two blocks of her own. Freshman Shyann Parker gave out a game-high eight assists and teamed up with Cheatham to corral a game-high tied five steals..
