Turnovers Hurt BMCC Men’s Basketball In Region 15 Home Loss To Nassau C.C.

New York, New York – Nassau Community College used 44 points off of 29 BMCC men's basketball turnovers to defeat the Panthers, 93-69, in Region 15 action on Saturday afternoon at BMCC Gymnasium. The win improves the Lions to 14-4 (9-2 Region XV), while the Panthers drop to 8-7 (7-6 Region XV) with the loss.

Three of the five Panther starters finished the afternoon in double figures, led by freshman Daniel Laffitte's (New York, New York) team-high 13 points. Classmate Ysaia Marte (Bronx, New York) contributed 11 points and led the Panthers defensively with three steals. Underclassman Leverson Tulien (Roslyn Heights, New York) missed his team-leading fourth double-double by two rebounds joining classmates Jayden Jarrett (Bronx, New York) and Elijah Paul (Brooklyn, New York) to grab a game-best tying eight boards to go along with 10 points. Paul drained nine points, a new career high, while sophomore Jeremiah Cardi (New York, New York) dished out a game-high five assists, and Jarrett turned away a game-best two shots and scored eight points. 
 
BMCC outrebounded Nassau Community College 36-30 and outscored them in the paint 44-38. The Lions got significant contributions from their bench, outscoring the Panthers 37-19 while edging them in second-chance points 17-16.

The Panthers came out swinging with the first four points with Adewale Fasanmi (Brooklyn, New York) and Marte layups at 18:47 and 18:20, and then the Lions exploded for a 17-0 run capping it with a Muldrow layin to extend their lead to 13, 17-4 at 14:19 mark. BMCC responded with six straight points with a Tulien bucket cutting the deficit down to seven, 17-10, at 13:38  before Nassau C.C. outscored them 30-6 over the next eight and a half minutes, building their lead to 17, 40-23 at 5:39 their largest of the first half on a Sean Walsh three-pointer. Both teams traded the final 20 points all the way to the halftime horn, with the Lions taking a 50-33 advantage into the locker room.

BMCC scored five of the first seven points of the second half to cut the Nassau lead down to as much as 14, 52-38 at 18:03 on a Cardi three-pointer, but the Lions wouldn't let the Panthers any closer. Nassau stretched the advantage to 27, 69-42, its largest of the afternoon at 12:04 on an RJ Thompson layin, and coasted to victory 93-69.

Nassau Community College had three players register double-figure scoring efforts in the contest. Freshman Madison Muldrow III led the Lions in three categories dropping a game-high 22 and corralling a team-best eight rebounds and a game-best six steals.

Freshman Jesse Taylor and sophomore Timothy Waite both recorded 18 points apiece, with Waite's coming off the bench to accomplish his effort. Freshman Donte Howard distributed a team-high three assists in the game and gobbled up five steals.
