Marte Matches Career-High With 20 Points In BMCC's Road Loss At Monroe-Bronx, 68-44

New Rochelle, New York - The BMCC men's basketball team was upended 68-44 on the road by Monroe-Bronx in Region 15 action on Tuesday night at Monroe Athletic Complex. The Express improved to 12-8 (6-3 Region 15) with the victory, while the Panthers dropped to 7-6 (6-5 Region 15).

Freshman Ysaia Marte (Bronx, New York) put up his second 20-point performance on the season with a game-high 20 points while classmates Jayden Jarrett (Bronx, New York) and Adewale Fasanmi (Brooklyn, New York) both hauled down a game-high 10 rebounds apiece. Fasanmi missed his first double-double of the season by three points scoring eight in the contest with seven. Sophomore Jeremiah Cardi (New York, New York) also posted seven points on the night, and freshman Boubacar Mbaye (Staten Island, New York) had five, while Fasanmi also recorded a game-best and career-high four blocks and Marte snagged a team-best three steals.

The Express got off to a quick start scoring eight of the game's first 10 points as a Babacar Niang made it 8-2 at the 17:15 mark. The Panthers scored five straight points to cut the deficit to 8-7 on a pair of Fasanmi free throws at 12:02 before Monroe-Bronx went on a furious 14-0 run to stretch their lead to the largest of the first half 14, 21-7 at 6:24 on a Vashaun Wallace jumper. BMCC rang up nine of the following 13 points to bring the deficit into single digits at nine, 25-16 at 3:56 on a Victor Cruz (Brooklyn, New York) three-pointer, and then eight, 27-18, on a Marte layup at 2:13 before the Express grabbed the last five points of the period to take a 32-19 lead into halftime.

The Panthers started the second half off strong, scoring the first four points of the period to get within nine, 32-23, at 17:11 on a Marte layup. However, that was as close as BMCC would get as the Express would lead by double digits throughout the period stretching the advantage to 24, 68-44 with three seconds to go on a Timothy Charles layin and carried that result to the final buzzer for the victory.

Twelve Monroe-Bronx players found the scoresheet on the night, with Freshman Abubakar Kromah leading the way with a team-high 10 points while grabbing a team-best nine rebounds and five steals. Sophomore Jasigha Barnes dished out a game-high four assists, and classmate Babacar Niang turned away a team-best two shots.

The Panthers will get some much-needed rest and get back to it a week from now, beginning a two-game homestand on Tuesday, January 24, in CUNYAC play against LaGuardia Community College at 7 p.m. at BMCC Gymnasium. For more information, visit the BMCC Men's Basketball Schedule Page.
