Women's Soccer Drops Region 15 Opener To Nassau Community College On The Road

Garden City, New York - The BMCC women's soccer team fell 5-0 on the road in their Region 15 opener to Nassau Community Tuesday evening in Garden City, New York. The victory improves the Lions to 1-3 (1-1 Region XV) while the Panthers fall to 0-1 (0-1 Region XV).

Nassau Community College got out of the gate quickly, opening the scoring in the 11th minute when Molly Devine blasted one from 22 yards off from a feed by Tatianna Austin to make it 1-0. The Lions would strike four minutes later when Shyann Parker twinkled the twine in the 15th minute of a ricochet in the penalty box to make it 2-0. Nayely Garcia (Puebla, Mexico) had a great chance to get the Panthers within a goal, but her 20-yard shot was turned aside to keep it 2-0.

Devine notched her second of the match in the 27th minute when her right-wing shot from outside the 18 went through the arms of freshman goalie Charlotte Canete making it 3-0. The Lions would add a Penalty Kick goal in the 32nd minute to extend their lead to 4-0 going into halftime.

Nassau Community College outshot BMCC 9-2 in the first half and held a 3-1 advantage in shots on goal.

BMCC put together a strong second half of play, outshooting Nassau Community College 10-2 but couldn't break through on the scoresheet. Freshman Justine Hoppie (Brooklyn, New York) had the first chance for the Panthers to get on the board, but her low right-footed shot just missed the post in the 45th minute. Devine completed the sombrero in the 58th minute when she ballooned a far side shot over the head of Canete and into the back of the net to make it 5-0.

BMCC had two more opportunities to find the back of the net in 77th and 78th, but Garcia and Susie Marrero's (New York, New York) opportunities from inside the 18 were turned away.

Garcia led all Panthers with five shots on the evening while Lizbeth Vazquez (Puebla, Mexico) had three and Marrero had two. Canette made one stop and took the loss.

The Panthers will look for their first victory of the season in their only home contest of the year on Wednesday, October 5, against Region 15 opponent Fashion Institute of Technology at 12:30 p.m. from Pier 40. For more information, visit the BMCC Women's Soccer Schedule Page.
