New York, New York – Three second-half goals lifted Queensborough Community College to a 4-1 victory over the BMCC men's soccer team on Tuesday afternoon in Bayside, New York. The loss drops the Panthers to 1-3 (1-2 CUNYAC) while the Tigers improve to 3-2 (1-0 CUNYAC).
Scoring chances were at a premium for both squads in the first half, with both teams feeling each other out for the first 45 minutes. Elhadji Ady Gaye (Dakar, Senegal) had a chance to get the Panthers on board 22 seconds in, but goalkeeper Erick Molina Bonilla denied his left-footed blast. John Pavana had an opportunity to get the home squad on board, but Abdul Mumin Seidu (Bronx, New York) made a key stop.
Ady Gaye would not let the next opportunity pass him by as he sent a gorgeous through ball onto the foot of Ademola Opesanwo (Bronx, New York), who buried it into the low left pocket of the net in the 28th minute to give the Panthers the 1-0 lead. Queensborough used an excellent pass of their own to tie it up in the 30th minute when Anthony Gallardo sent a cross into the penalty area that found the right foot of Malduin Aldaz, who blasted it into the left pocket of the net to tie it at 1. Neither team would threaten for the remainder of the half as both teams went into halftime tied at 1.
After both teams fired eight shots apiece in the first half, Queensborough outshot BMCC 6-4 in the second half and 14-12 overall, controlling the possession for most of the second half. In the 48th minute, Pavana was taken down in the penalty box by Mouhamed Nasr (Brooklyn, New York) and awarded a penalty kick where he would cash in to give the Tigers their first lead of the afternoon, 2-1.
The Tigers would strike again in the 57th minute as Anthony Gallardo took a pass down the right wing and ripped a low sizzler into the low left pocket to increase the score to 3-1. Geovanny Ventura would add one more for Queensborough in the 82nd minute, uncorking a blast into the net's left side, powering the Tigers to a 4-1 victory.
Bonilla picked up the victory for the Tigers in his first career start making three saves, while Seidu made three stops and took the loss.
The Panthers will look to return to their winning ways heading on the road to face Rockland Community College on Saturday, September 24th at 1 p.m. in Suffern, New York. For more information, visit the BMCC Men's Soccer Schedule.
