Queens, New York – The BMCC Baseball team dropped its Region 15 contest at home to Nassau Community College 23-4 on Thursday afternoon at Padavan-Preller Complex. With the defeat, the Panthers fall to 0-13 (0-13 Region XV) while the Lions improve to 10-8 (9-7 Region XV).

Nassau Community College got their offense fired up early in the top of the first when Dylan Strang ripped an RBI double to left field to give the Lions the early 1-0 advantage. Strang stole second and scored on an error by David Fernandez (New York, New York) to extend the lead to 2-0 going into the bottom of the first. After starting pitcher, Ryan Whitaker allowed a double to left field by Frank Reyes (Brooklyn, New York), he would strike out the next three to keep it scoreless after one.

The Lions added two more runs in the top of the second on a Chris Perri Sacrifice fly RBI then Nicholas Inzerillo was walked in to make it 4-0, and Whitaker struck out the side in the bottom of the second to hold it at that mark. Nassau Community College would break the game open in the top of the third, exploding for 11 runs. Julio Lizardo led off the inning with a solo blast to center field, then Inzerillo reached on an error scoring Chris McGuggart and Perri to make it 7-0.

Nick Sampogna uncorked a two-run shot to center field to stretch the lead to 9-0 before Vincent Rutigliano and Anthony Lamar were both walked in to make it 11-0. Perri connected on a two-run single, Sampogna had an RBI sacrifice fly, and Rutigliano an RBI double to make it 15-0 going into the bottom of the third. The bottom of the third was the best offensive inning for the Panthers on the afternoon as they racked up three runs.

Fernandez led off with a single to right field, then Reyes and Richard Suriel (Queens, New York) both walked, and Alexander Miranda (Brooklyn, New York) drilled a two-run single to center field. Braudy Ciprian (Bronx, New York) would pick up an RBI on a groundout to make it 15-3 after three innings of play.

The Lions kept the Panthers from getting any closer as they packed on eight more runs in the top of the fourth, and BMCC got one more run from Suriel on an RBI groundout before falling 23-4.

Whitaker went the distance and got the start for Nassau C.C., striking out ten batters over five innings while allowing five hits and four runs for the victory. Suriel made his fourth start and got the loss for the Panthers, allowing 13 runs on six hits.

Miranda, Cristhian Fernandez Batista (New York, New York), Abdel Raheem Dolah (Brooklyn, New York) each contributed in relief for BMCC Panthers out of the bullpen. Miranda allowed two runs on two hits in one inning while Batista had a strikeout, and Dolah recorded four strikeouts of his own, including striking out the side in the top of the fifth.

Reyes put up his third multi-hit game of the season with a career-high two doubles and registered another with two stolen bases. Miranda, Dolah, and Fernandez also recorded a hit.

The Panthers will look to bounce back quickly tomorrow, Friday, April 22, as they conclude their four-game homestand against Region 15 opponent Nassau Community College at 4 p.m. from Padavan-Preller Complex. For more information, please visit the BMCC Baseball Schedule Page.
