Kennedy's Outstanding Panther Debut Not Enough For Women's Basketball In A Close Game With Bronx Community College

New York, New York – The BMCC women's basketball team continues to fight from the opening tip until the final buzzer this season. In a competitive conference duel that featured nine different lead changes and seven ties, the Panthers erased a 26-24 halftime deficit to go into the final quarter tied at 36, but the Broncos were able to pull away in the fourth en route to a 54-44 victory on Tuesday night at BMCC Gymnasium. The Broncos improve to 3-7 (2-1 CUNYAC) with the victory, while the Panthers drop to 1-7 (1-2 CUNYAC) with the loss.

Two Panthers finished the evening in double figures, with Amanda Araujo (Bronx, New York) leading the way with team-high 14 points and a game-high four three-pointers made. Classmate Emily Kennedy (Brooklyn, New York) made a splendid debut at BMCC Gymnasium, scoring 12 points and leading BMCC defensively with team-high eight steals and eight boards.

Kennedy also tied for a team-best in assists with classmate Alicia Tomby (Berbice, Guyana) with three. Freshman Kayla Rodriguez (Brooklyn, New York) also grabbed seven rebounds in the contest.

Bronx Community College sophomore Shawnasia Ofaire put up a game-high 25 points missing a double-double by one rebound with a game-best nine while dishing out five assists, also a game-best. Freshman Tatyana Graham scored 10 points, while classmate Treazure Diggins grabbed a game-high nine steals.

The Panthers will head to nationally-ranked No. 1 Hostos Community College on Thursday, December 8, at 6 p.m. at the Swamp in the Bronx, New York. For more information, visit the BMCC women's basketball schedule page.
