BMCC Women's Basketball Drops Season Opener To UCONN Avery Point At Home

New York, New York - After 342 days off the hardwood, the BMCC women's basketball team returned to competition and fell 81-31 to UCONN Avery Point in their season opener Tuesday night at BMCC Gymnasium. The Pointers improve to .500 at 2-2 with the victory, while the Panthers drop to 0-1.

Freshman Demaris Andrews (Bayonne, New Jersey) had an outstanding debut for the Panthers, posting a double-double with a team-high 22 points and 13 rebounds to go along with a team-best three steals defensively. Sophomore Alicia Tomby (Berbice, Guyana) dished out a team-best two assists and scored four points.

UCONN Avery Point got out of the gate quickly, jumping out to a 17-1 lead and holding BMCC without a field goal for the first 6:30 in the first quarter cruising to a 29-3 lead after the first quarter and building it to a 46-15 at halftime.

The second half was more of the same as the Pointers held the Panthers to single digits again in the third quarter leading 20-6 going into the fourth quarter and motoring to an 81-31 victory.

Four UCONN Avery Point players finished in double figures on the evening. Sophomore Adeline Smith led the Pointer's offense with a game-high 23 points, while freshman Adelaide Hauptmann registered a double-double with a game-best 19 rebounds to go along with 16 points and six assists. Freshman Francesca Foster dished out a game-high nine assists and grabbed a game-best five steals to go along with 16 points. Nicole Walker also contributed 13 points on the evening.

The Panthers will look for their first victory of the season on the road Thursday, November 10, against Rockland Community College in Suffern, New York. For more information, visit the BMCC Women's Basketball Schedule Page.
