New York, New York - The BMCC women's basketball team lost to the No. 14 nationally ranked Monroe Express, 90-14, in Region 15 competition on Thursday night at BMCC Gymnasium. The Express got back to .500 at 2-2 (2-0 Region XV) with the win, while the Panthers fell to 1-3 (1-2 Region XV).
Sophomore Alicia Tomby (Berbice, Guyana) and Amanda Araujo (Bronx, New York) led the way for the Panthers on offense with a team-high five points apiece, while Demaris Andrews (Bayonne, New Jersey) chipped in with four points and dished out a team-high three assists. In addition, freshman Kayla Rodriguez (Brooklyn, New York) grabbed a team-high six rebounds, while Andrews snagged a team-best four steals.
The Express had five players finish the evening in double figures. Sophomore Nyeira Spady led all scorers with 13 points while also handing out a game-high six assists and led Monroe-Bronx with a game-best six steals. Sophomores Sierra Jones and Janay Legagneur contributed on offense with 12 and 11 points, while classmate Fatima Thompson put up a double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds and scored 10 points of her own. Freshman Ariella Johnson also had 10 points, and Sophomore Isa Negron swatted away a game-high three shots in the paint.
