New York, New York | The BMCC women's basketball team lost to visiting Kingsborough Community College on Tuesday evening, 53-42, at BMCC Gymnasium. The Panthers' record falls to 2-8 (2-3 CUNYAC) on the season, while the Wave improves to 9-3 (5-1 CUNYAC) with the win.
Sophomore Autum Adams-Edwards (Brooklyn, New York) led BMCC with a career-high 26 points to go along with a team-best three assists. Classmate Lauren Malcolm (Bronx, New York) brought down a team-best 15 rebounds, while Freshman Shyasia Preston (Far Rockaway, New York) scooped up a team-high four steals and swatted a team-best two blocks. Preston also ripped down 14 rebounds in the game.
After both teams combined for just three total points over the first 4:41 of the opening quarter, the Panthers jumped out to a five-point lead, 8-3, their largest of the game at the 3:00 mark before the Wave went on to an 8-2 run to close out the first quarter with an 11-10 advantage.
BMCC held Kingsborough Community College scoreless for the first four minutes of the second, then retook the lead on freshman Melanie Ozoria's (Far Rockaway, Queens) jumper at 8:48 to go back in front 12-11. After Adams-Edward's layup at 6:03 extended their lead to three, 14-11, the Wave took control of the game from there, closing out the second quarter on a 15-0 run and holding the Panthers scoreless for the final 6:03 to lead 26-14 at halftime.
The Wave spent the majority of the rest of the game with a comfortable double-digit advantage, continuing to keep BMCC scoreless for the first six minutes of the third quarter, 12 minutes straight overall while outscoring them 27-0 over that span to build their largest lead of the night, 12, 38-14 at the 6:00 mark. BMCC finished with a strong effort to end the third quarter going on an 11-4 run in the final six minutes, cut the deficit down to 42-25 after three.
After Kingsborough got their margin back to its biggest of the night, 22 -- 47-25 -- at the 8:38 mark of the fourth quarter, BMCC would finish out the final stanza strong outscoring KCC 17-6 over the last eight despite falling short 53-42.
Two Kingsborough players recorded double-doubles, as freshman guard Tiffany Bogle notched her fifth of the season with a team-high 20 points to go along with a game-high 16 rebounds and six blocks. Sophomore Magdalena Kupras handed out a game-best 11 assists and drained 15 points to go along with a team-best five steals. Keyanna Elrington also chipped in with 10 points in the contest.
